DRAFT How to Plan Your Summer Experience
UNIT LEADERSHIP The Scoutmaster is the key leader in Scouting. The effectiveness of a Troop depends on this volunteer and his/her understanding of Scouting. The SM guides the Troop leadership to show the patrols the road ahead as they strive to meet their goals. If the SM cannot go to camp with the Scouts, other adult Scouters may be designated by the Troop committee to be leaders at camp. Full responsibility for discipline and directing the unit at camp rests with the Troop’s camp leader. Each Troop must provide its own leadership.
Leaders, there are training opportunities for you and your adult leadership. Go to Leader Training Opportunities
USE SCHEDULE TO PLAN YOUR PROGRAM The daily or weekly schedule in camp is not the camp program. Rather it is an outline for planning and administering the program. It is a timetable for certain campwide activities and a checklist of opportunities. The schedule provides a means for keeping track of program opportunities so that each unit may have a balanced experience. Each Troop’s program may be different because its needs and interests are different. Therefore, it is vital that the SM and his Troop leaders determine the needs and desires of the Troop, patrols and individuals. Do not plan on doing every activity available. It is hard to do everything at camp in one week or even in two. Schedules and Forms are available at our camp website; click on the Pre-Camp Forms menu and select 'All Forms'. PHYSICAL EXAMS
UNIFORMING We encourage units to wear their full uniforms during any chapel services and request all Scouts be in full uniform for all evening assemblies and dinners. A more relaxed "Class B" uniform such as scout pants/shorts, scout socks, and a troop or camp t-shirt is acceptable attire for morning assemblies and throughout the day. Troops are encouraged to set a uniform policy that their troop can adhere to before camp begins. Many troops display their pride with troop shirts or hats. Scouting attire is recommended at all times. SPECIAL ARRIVAL NEEDSSATURDAY ARRIVALS: Summer Camp officially begins on Sunday at 12:00 pm. However, to be sensitive to special needs such as extra long travel distances or religious needs, arrival prior to this time is available only through prior arrangement with the camp administration. Please be mindful that this is to meet your special needs and no program is available. The majority of the staff is off duty at this time and there will be no personnel providing services. The following criteria must be observed.
