As you are aware there have been
some concerns with the Youth Protection Training for all volunteers
as mandated by the National Council, of the Boy Scouts. I would
like to share with you our plan for implementing the requirements.
-
When did you have Youth
Protection Training last? Remember it is good for two years, and
if you hold a current certificate, you can avoid the rush and
postpone taking the training until your card is closer to
expiring.
-
Computer issues and logging
on issues cannot be controlled by the local council office.
-
Because volunteers from
across America will be logging into the system to take the
training, you should consider a less used time. Because we
are in the Eastern Time zone you might want to consider doing
the online training in the morning, before the other time zones.
-
For those volunteers who do
not have access to a computer, the council will make a computer
available for your use, during regular business hours at the
Service center.
-
Classroom Youth Protection
Training will be offered this Saturday (June 26) at Kellenberg
High School at 9 am.
-
For volunteers going to OSR
this summer, we will offer a course during each week.
-
The council will also
offer 4 courses this summer at the Council Service Center.
Please contact the council office (Kevin O’Shea) to hold a
spot for one of these dates:
a. July
15 at 10: 00 am (morning)
b.
July 27 at 7:45 pm
(evening)
c.
August 12 at 7:45
pm (evening)
d.
August 24 at 10:00
am (morning)
-
Committee Chairmen are
responsible for seeing that new and re-registering volunteers
from their units are trained in Youth Protection.
-
Each Dean of Merit Badges
from each district is responsible for the district Merit Badge
Counselors.
-
District Chairmen are
responsible for seeing that each Member at Large of the District
Committee has received the training.
We understand the challenge, but
it’s the right thing to do to protect our scouts. Thank you for your
continued support of the youth of the Theodore Roosevelt Council.
David Richardson has 35 years
of Scouting Experience. He is an Eagle Scout and a Vigil
member of the Order of the Arrow.
