Eric Anderson

Eric E. Anderson, AIA

Eric currently serves as the VP for Membership.  He served as Council Commissioner from 2012-16. 

Eric is an architect and educator with more that twenty-five years in educational and non-profit facilities planning and project management.  He is a registered architect, who teaches as an  Assistant Professor of Architecture and Construction Management at Farmingdale State College.  

Eric was born in New York City, and grew up in Jamaica and Levittown.  He joined the Boy Scouts in 1969 as a member of Troop 315 (Levittown) and held all the key youth leadership positions and developed a lifelong love of camping.  Eric earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1975 after completing a year long project to develop a program for parents with Downs Syndrome and autistic children to use camping as a method to teach life skills. He is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, and has served as an adviser to the banquet, Vigil, and camp promotion committees. He has also been presented the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. 

The focus of his Scouting experience was shaped by joining the camp staff at Onteora Scout Reservation in 1974, where he worked in many program areas; he served as camp program director in 1980 and 1982.  He reconnected with the camp in 1988, and has served in many volunteer capacities. In 1991, he was appointed to the committee that developed the Cub World program at Schiff Scout Reservation, and trained the staff from 1993-1995; he also developed the first council Webelos Bridge camp in 1994.  Eric also worked with the Bear Claw program for youth leader training; first as an assistant scoutmaster in the JLT program at Onteora in 2004, and then developed  the council NYLT program as a scoutmaster and course director for two years.  He has also served as  scoutmaster for the Path to Eagle program for 5 years.  

Eric's current scouting focus is international scouting activities.  He has served as a unit leader to the 22nd World Scout Jamboree, the 23rd World Scout Jamboree, and a local contingent participating in the 2016 Iceland National Jamboree. In 2017, he earned the International Scouters Knot and attended the 31st Asia Pacific Jamboree in Mongolia as part of the International Service Team. He will be a scoutmaster for the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019.
