The BSA Ready & Prepared Award was developed to encourage and reward units that incorporate safe practices while enjoying challenging activities. Earning the award helps units focus on areas in which emphasizing risk management can help reduce fatalities and serious injury, such as driver and passenger safety, BSA Youth Protection, precautions for aquatics activities, premises safety and first-aid readiness, and ersonal fitness and safety.


Emergency Preparedness BSA is a partnership between Homeland Security (DHS) and the Boy Scouts of America to increase the level of citizen preparedness across the country. DHS has asked the Boy Scouts of America to build upon the foundation of the Ready campaign and to help citizens across the country prepare for emergencies of all kinds. When a member has fulfilled the requirements, a completed application is submitted to the council. Upon approval, an Emergency Preparedness  pin is awarded.


Council Risk Management Slide Show is available to provide unit leaders and committees with the safety and risk management issues to be recognized in an active Cub Pack, Troop, or Crew.


Ready Kids is a tool prepared by Homeland Security to help parents and teachers educate children in grades 4-5 about emergencies and how they can help get their family prepared.


The Be Red Cross Ready online education presentation is a general guide for home emergency planning and has information useful to prepared for the Emergency Preparedness merit badge.
