The Boy Scouts of America's premier high-adventure base—challenges Scouts and Venturers with more than 200 square miles of rugged New Mexico wilderness. Backpacking treks, horseback cavalcades, and training and service programs offer young people many ways to experience this legendary country. Philmont's camping season is from mid-June to late August. Organized into crews of 7-12, including at least two adult leaders, participants hike Philmont's mountains for ten full days, spending nights at various backcountry camps. Please note that there are still positions for Youth available in the 2012 Philmont Contingent. Peter Gibbons is the contingent leader and they have begun training for the summer trip. The contingent leaves New York on July 15, 2012 and will return on July 29, 2012. The approximate cost is set at $1900 per person.
