Theodore Roosevelt Council is going to purchase the accident sickness and accident policy for all
registered units in our council. This coverage has been optional; however, the Council Risk Management Committee has advised the Council Executive Board that reduction of liability for units and reduction of costs can be achieved if all Cub packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews purchase this coverage. Starting January 2009, all units in our council will be required to purchase this coverage, for a cost of $ 1 per registered member in addition to the current registration fee.

Thanksgiving Good Turn

Dear Fellow Scouters,

On Thursday, November 27th, 2008, for the nineteenth consecutive year, the Oceanside Interfaith Thanksgiving Committee will be conducting its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.  This dinner with entertainment and door prizes is held for the less fortunate from the South Shore Community. For those who cannot leave their homes, there are staff members who deliver the food to their homes.  There will be kosher and non-kosher food to respect the dietary needs of all members of the community.  This endeavor is supported by the different houses of worship in Oceanside, the Knights of Columbus, businesses and residents of the community.

It is to be held at St. Anthony’s, 80 Anchor Avenue, west of Long Beach Road. The Interfaith Committee would appreciate the assistance of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers and Scouters as volunteers during the hours of 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM  (10:00 AM Set-Up     12:00 PM Serving      1:45 PM Clean-Up).  We are looking for older youths to be available for the “Clean-Up which involves moving the tables and chairs back to where they belong. All scouting volunteers should wear a scouting shirt and sign up on the scouting registration sheet when they enter.

At the January Iroquois District Roundtable, Certificates of Appreciation will be issued to all scouting volunteers and units who participated and did service for the community.

This is a sharing and caring experience. When you finish and go home to celebrate your family’s Thanksgiving dinner your thoughts of your service will make you feel really good about what you have helped accomplish.

This year, the Interfaith Committee has requested that Scout Units pre-register with me by November 24th, 2008.  Please e-mail  me at SteveOSide@aol.com or call me at home at (516) 763-2573 with which of the three time periods your unit will be down to do service and the number of youths and adults who will be attending.

Wouldn’t this be better than staying home and watching the parade?

A Happy Thanksgiving to all my Scouting friends.

Yours in Scouting,
