The mission of the Jewish Committee on Scouting is to provide a Jewish
experience to scouts of the Jewish faith and to maintain a Jewish
presence in scouting by organizing units sponsored by Jewish
organizations. In order to carry out our mission we supervise or
participate in the following programs:

Jewish education classes and activities
leading to the earning of Jewish religious emblems.

Maintain the Jewish Chapel at Camp.
-
Sponsor Annual Jewish Scout Sabbath
services at a local synagogue.

Sponsor Annual Jewish Awards Breakfast to
honor all scouts who have earned Jewish emblems.
-
Sponsor annual Lag B’omer Bonfire.
-
Provide leadership for religious services
at council sponsored week end and summer camp programs.
-
Provide leadership and participate in
annual All Faith Week End.
-
Provide leadership and participate in
annual Ten Commandment Hike.
-
Participate in the council membership
committee.
-
Safeguard the religious needs of Jewish
scouts in the council.

Gus Katz Award |
The Gus Katz Award is presented to a unit
(Pack, Troop, or Crew) that puts into practice the twelfth point of the Scout
Law, a Scout is Reverent. The award is non-sectarian and is based upon
participation at various functions listed on the flyer, and on the overall
number of religious emblems earned by the unit as well as a community service
project. |
