STaff Alumni Lodge Renovation

Funding has been raised to begin the renovation of the old Long Island Trading Post to serve as a lodge to serve as sleeping quarters for fall , winter and spring weekends and provide a staff lounge. Over $4200 will be spent on renovation materials, and volunteers will begin renovation by creating a large room with new wall and ceiling finishes with lighting.  Click HERE for a plan of the overall renovation and study image of the project.

Ken Heim Ring Renovation

An area of camp that has not received significant investment is the camp wide campfire area.  Unlike the old Buckskin Amphitheater which seated at least 1000 persons, the Ken Heim Ring was established on the site of the Protestant Chapel, where a stage was configured from the back porch and the seats were just recycled from the chapel seating; no lighting or sound systems are currently available.  The area seats 250-350 people per week in a 5-week summer camp season; no parents or visitors day demand is required.

A concept that has been advocated in the capital campaign for the council is the reconstruction of this area.  This project has been proposed to see if alumni that have expertise or access to expertise can assist with:

  1. Renovation to make the site work as an amphitheater in a more effective and intimate manner than it does now.

  2. Determine how to provide a simple lighting system that would make it useful for events during camp and weekends.

  3. Obtain a portable sound system for use in large events at the ring.
