Reopening of Sagamore Hill

On July 12, the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site will celebrate the reopening of Sagamore Hill.   A family festival will be held from 11 am to 4 pm, and TRC will host a display celebrating the relationship between TR and Scouting.  The National Park Service will also have many other activities for young and old alike.

Theodore Roosevelt, our 26th president, first Council Commissioner of our council, and the only Chief Scout Citizen designated by the BSA built this home for his family.  For many years, Boy Scouts participated in Roosevelt Pilgrimages to visit TR when he was alive and for many years after his death in 1919 to celebrate his support and influence on Boy Scouts as they grew into prominence in the US.  The relationship of the site to Scouting is still very strong; during our Commissioner College in late 2014, a special celebration in the soon-to-be finished restoration was conducted for our commissioners receiving their Doctoral Commissioner of Science knots.

If you would like to volunteer to serve as a host at our display, contact Eric Anderson, the Council Commissioner at [Click for member's page]

We encourage all Scouting families to celebrate the re-opening of this special place in honor of Teddy.  Hope to see you there.
