TRC Council Covid-19 Update

Dear Scouting Families,

Weekly unit meetings are one of the most basic and most vital methods to deliver the Scouting program. Now, like never before, we need to be creative to provide the promise of Scouting this fall.  This past spring, many of our units were nimble and shifted to virtual Den and Patrol meetings when in-person meetings were not possible. That simple shift continued Scouting for thousands of youth. We applaud you for your effort and remind you that we expect all our units to resume weekly meetings in September 2020.

Weekly meetings can come in many forms. We recommend having flexibility and working with your parents to find the right fit for the families you serve. This fall, many units across Nassau County will go back to meeting in-person (if their sponsor permits); some may meet outside (if weather and daylight permits), and some may continue to meet online. We recommend using a hybrid of all three to keep as many families engaged as possible.

We are pleased to announce that as of September 1st, gatherings of up to 50 people inside or outside is permitted (pending sponsoring institution permission). Please remember to follow New York State guidelines that state, “Wear a mask and maintain six feet distance in public.” We mandate the use of face masks for all indoor meetings and strongly encourage face masks in an outdoor setting.

To help you build your Fall Scout Unit Meeting Plan, we have provided you a Restart Unit Checklist to plan safe gatherings. Feel free to contact our Council Program Center and your District Executive at 1-516-797-7600 for assistance with restarting Scouting this fall.

We hope everyone has a terrific Labor Day weekend.

Yours in Scouting,

Andy Johns       Chris Coscia          Pete Shields
