TRC VENTURING EVENTS, NEWS & INFO

Sandy Update:  As a result of the Sandy Relief Event held on 12/15/12 Venturers and Scouts  collected over 1,600 pounds of food and other products to donate to Island Harvest and other agencies to be put to use right here on Long Island.  Over 175 new unwrapped toys were collected.  Enough equipment was donated to help many youth and units recover from the storms impact.   Our youth, volunteers and professional staff dedicated over 600 hours to make this event a success.   A short video of the event can be seen on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ispbQq95rwIExternal Link

Earlier this month Crew 556 was honored by the Town of North Hempstead for their work during and the days following Sandy.  Please see the attached for some of the details of how the youth of Crew 556 helped run a FEMA shelter and supported their community when it needed them the most.  BULLY!!!

Please share your unit’s involvement in Sandy related events, community service, etc… with us.  Send us a write up of your unit’s activities (along with photos if possible).

Area 2 Apex – The District Games (based on The Hunger Games).  This event was known in the past as “The Summit”.  However National has requested that the term “The Summit” not be used going forward so as not to be confused with our new national high adventure camp.  The Apex will be hosted by Connecticut Rivers Council at Camp Mattituck in Plymouth CT – April 26th – 28th.  Shooting sports (pistol, rifle and shotgun) will be offered.  However, all youth & adults must have completed the appropriate safety courses.  TRC will offer the appropriate safety course on Feb 20th.  The safety course will also be offered at the Apex on Friday evening from 8pm to 9pm and then at a time tbd on Saturday morning (you’ll miss an hour of program time).  If you attend the course on Feb 20th you will need to bring a copy of your card with you to the Apex in order to participate in the shooting sports.  The fee for the Apex will be $45. (tent) and $50 (cabin) per person.  Registration will be by units and done online.  The online registration and form is being finalized.  For more info watch our Council website (trcbsa.org) or the Northeast Area 2 Venturing website at http://nerventuring-bsa.org/areas/area-2/External Link
